Children’s lawyer Lorraine Green to give evidence to legal aid APPG

On 19 November 2020, family lawyer Lorraine Green will be giving evidence as an expert witness in the second of six oral evidence sessions in the inquiry into the sustainability of legal aid, hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Legal Aid.

The session on legal aid for family law cases will enable parliamentarians to hear evidence from professionals on the front-line about the pressures and failings within the current system, and help to establish the key issues influencing the sustainability of legal aid organisations.

The enquiry is collecting evidence from six sessions, surveys and academic research. It will present a set of recommendations to the government, including potential solutions to make legal aid more sustainable.

The panel will consist of:

  • Chair Karen Buck MP;
  • Baroness Helena Kennedy;
  • Lord Willy Bach;
  • Lord Colin Low;
  • Gareth Bacon MP;
  • James Daly MP; and
  • Andy Slaughter MP.

Legal aid minister Alex Chalk MP, shadow legal aid minister Karl Turner MP and senior members of the Ministry of Justice will also be observing.

The APPG on Legal Aid was established in July 2009 and is sponsored by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group and Young Legal Aid Lawyers.
