47% of children now born outside marriage
The Office for National Statistics show that the proportion of children born outside marriage or a civil partnership has now risen to 47.5%.
Cohabiting couples do not have the same legal rights as married couples when it comes to financial support if the relationship breaks down. The common law wife or husband is a myth. Couples should consider entering into cohabitation agreements and take legal advice on what rights they have to ensure that they are adequately protected.
